Travel snacks: what to take on the train, plane, car trip or hike so nothing melts or spoils
Crispy dried cheese is protein that needs no fridge, no dishes and no napkins. A 28 g pack weighs less than an apple, gives you 12–17 g of protein and won’t leak in your bag at +30 °C or at the bottom of a backpack. One ingredient: cheese.
Why “ordinary” travel food doesn’t work
A cheese sandwich loses its looks and taste after three hours in the warmth. Yoghurt needs a spoon and cold. A banana goes black in a backpack, a muesli bar melts and crumbles, crisps are oil and zero satiety. Nuts are fine, but they are mostly fat: 20 g of protein per 100 g and 600 kcal. You want something filling, light, clean and undemanding.
snEco dried cheese is exactly that. It is hard cheese from which the water was removed in a vacuum at 36–38 °C, making it crispy and dry. That’s why:
No fridge needed
A sealed 14 or 28 g pack keeps for 18 months at room temperature. In a car in the sun, in a tent, in your luggage: it doesn’t matter.
Doesn’t melt or leak
No melted cheese, no chocolate puddle. Open it, eat it, tuck the pack away: clean hands.
Light and filling
28 g is about 70 g of cheese before drying: 12–17 g of protein and 135–195 kcal. As much protein as two eggs, in a pack as thin as a phone.
What to take depending on the trip
| Where | What to choose | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Train, bus | 2–3 Mini packs of 14 g in different flavours | one portion at a time, doesn’t smell up the whole carriage, doesn’t crumble |
| Plane | Gouda or Mozzarella 28 g | a dry product with no liquid restrictions; mild flavours with minimal salt, so you get less thirsty at altitude |
| Car, long drive | box of 15 packs or cheese + nut mixes | a snack for the whole family for several days; the nut adds fullness |
| Hike, mountains, bike tour | SUPERFOOD (60 g of protein), Smoked Sulguni | maximum protein per gram of weight, salt replaces what you lose through sweat, no cooking needed |
| For a child on the road | “Cosmic”, Mozzarella 14 g | no sugar, doesn’t stick to hands or seats |
| Business trip, hotel | OPTIMAL set of 6 packs | an evening snack with wine or beer without a trip to the shop |
For the road: what people take most often
Dried cheese on a hike: weight and protein
On a hike, every gram counts. A 28 g pack means 12–17 g of protein; to get the same from canned food you would have to carry a 150–200 g tin. Dried cheese needs no stove, no water and no time: you eat it at a rest stop straight from the pack or crumble it into a cream soup or porridge at the last minute for crunch and cheesy flavour. Smoked Sulguni works like bacon in such a soup. You can keep it in any pocket of your backpack: the pack is airtight and the product isn’t afraid of heat.
Tip: take different flavours. The same snack gets boring by day three, while Gouda, Cheddar, Sulguni and the hazelnut mix are four different dishes from one pocket.
Travel snacks with no sugar and no “chemicals”
- Ingredients: cheese (pasteurised milk, salt, starter culture, enzyme); the mixes also contain nuts.
- 0 g added sugar, less than 0.5 g of carbohydrates per 28 g pack.
- No oil, flour, preservatives, colourings or gluten-containing ingredients.
- Shelf life: 18 months for 14 and 28 g packs, 8 months for the nut mixes.
- Once opened, eat within a day or two or close tightly: the cheese draws moisture from the air and softens.
