Keto snack from dried cheese: how to choose by macros

Cover image for the article about a dried cheese keto snack

In short. Dried cheese has 1–4 g of carbs per 100 g and 31–60 g of protein. By its macro ratio it suits keto and low-carb eating. But “suitable by composition” and “suitable for you” are different things, so below are the numbers, and the decision is yours.

Macros across the whole range

Flavour Protein Fat Carbohydrates kcal
Superfood 60 g 24 g 4 g 478
Primaggio 53.4 g 42.2 g 1.5 g 688
Sulguni 52 g 40 g 2 g 547
Mozzarella 49.4 g 44.1 g 1.5 g 567
Gouda 48.3 g 44.2 g 1.5 g 630
Emmental 46 g 44 g 1.6 g 660
Cosmic 45.9 g 45.5 g 1 g 586
Cheddar 42.3 g 46.8 g 1.5 g 605
Blue Royale 31.7 g 51 g 1 g 589

All values are per 100 g of product. A 28 g pack contains roughly a third of that.

What matters in these numbers for keto

The classic keto approach is to keep carbs within roughly 20–50 g per day. A 28 g pack of any flavour gives you less than 1 g of carbs. In other words, it takes up almost none of your daily limit, and that is the main argument.

For comparison: one small packet of crisps has 25–30 g of carbs, which is already half or even all of your daily allowance.

Which flavour to choose for your goal

Maximum protein, minimum calories — Superfood. 60 g of protein and 478 kcal: the best ratio in the range. It has slightly more carbs than the others (4 g), but by keto standards that is still low.

Classic high-fat keto — Blue Royale or Cheddar. These have the most fat (51 and 46.8 g) and the fewest carbs: 1 and 1.5 g.

A moderate option — Sulguni: 52 g of protein, 40 g of fat, 547 kcal. Balanced, with no extremes.

A separate note on olives

The range also includes crispy green and black olives, but by composition they are a completely different product. They contain 4.6 g of protein per 100 g, 55.8 g of fat and 3.4 g of carbs, and their shelf life is 12 months instead of 18.

They are also suitable for keto thanks to their fat and low carbs. But do not expect protein from them: this is a plant-based product, not cheese. Both options are vegan.

How it works in a real day

The most common problem on a low-carb diet is snacks. Main meals are easy to put together, but when you want something to eat between lunch and dinner, the choice usually comes down to nuts or something that no longer fits the plan.

A pack of cheese covers that moment: it needs no fridge, does not melt in your bag, is gone in a minute, and keeps you full thanks to its protein and fat.

How to calculate your daily intake

To make the numbers in the table useful, you need to convert them into servings. The easiest way is to multiply by 0.28 for a 28 g pack and by 0.14 for a 14 g pack.

For example, Gouda: 48.3 g of protein per 100 g × 0.28 = about 13.5 g of protein per pack. Carbs: 1.5 × 0.28 = 0.42 g, which is less than half a gram for the whole pack.

The practical takeaway: even if you eat two packs a day, that is less than 1 g of carbs. Within a daily limit of 20–50 g that is practically zero, leaving room for vegetables, where carbs are genuinely needed.

What not to expect from this product

A few honest caveats worth stating plainly:

This is not a diet product. The calorie count is high, 478–688 kcal per 100 g, because the water was removed from the cheese while the fat and protein stayed. If you count calories, the pack has to be counted, not treated as “nothing”.

It is not a meal replacement. A snack is great for bridging the gap between meals, but no snack should become the basis of your diet, whether on keto or any other approach.

It is not a “fat burner”. A low carb count does not make a product help you lose weight on its own. It simply does not get in the way of the plan you are following.

What about the salt content

Cheese is a salty product by definition, and drying concentrates the salt just as it concentrates the protein. Gouda, for example, has 3.1 g of salt per 100 g, which is about 0.9 g per 28 g pack.

For most people this is not a problem: the WHO daily recommendation is around 5 g. But if you limit salt on a doctor’s advice, this number should be counted along with everything else.

Frequently asked questions

How many packs a day is okay?
It depends on your calorie needs. A 28 g pack is about 130–190 kcal. Two packs a day are not a problem for most diets, but this is a snack, not a meal replacement.

Is there sugar in the ingredients?
No. The ingredients are cheese, salt, starter culture and microbial enzyme. The carbs you see in the table are the natural milk sugars of the cheese itself.

Is it suitable for diabetes?
There really are very few carbs here. But any dietary changes with diabetes should be discussed with your doctor; we do not give medical advice.

Is it suitable for vegetarians?
The enzyme in the ingredients is of microbial, not animal, origin. The green and black olives are vegan.

Questions and answers

How many carbs are in cheese snacks?
From 1 to 4 g per 100 g in pure cheese snacks, depending on the flavour. In a 28 g pack that is no more than 1.1 g, so a snack like this does not affect ketosis.
Can I eat it every day on keto?
Yes, it is ordinary hard cheese, just without the water. The limits are the same as for cheese: keep an eye on your total fat and salt for the day.
Which flavour is best for keto?
The fewest carbs are in Blue Royale and kids’ “Cosmic”, 1 g per 100 g; Gouda, Cheddar, Mozzarella and Primaggio have 1.5 g. The most protein is in SUPERFOOD: 60 g per 100 g.
